The best weekly planner app for iPhone: 6 compared by who does the planning
· 8 min read
If you want an app to build the week for you, Plan7 does that on iPhone from one goal, your fixed hours and your sleep. If you'd rather plan it yourself, Week Plan organizes the week around roles and goals, NotePlan gives every week its own note, Sunsama runs a guided weekly ritual from the desktop, and Fantastical shows your calendar week full screen. Structured is built around the day.
Three jobs a weekly planner can do
"Weekly planner" covers apps that do very different amounts of the work. Before you compare, decide which of these you need help with:
- Seeing the week. A clear seven-day view of what's already booked. Any calendar app does this; some do it better.
- Deciding what goes in it. Which goals get time, where the gym fits, what to drop when it doesn't fit. Most apps leave this to you, with a framework or a ritual to guide you.
- Sticking to it on the day. Reminders, a countdown, blocking the apps that eat the time you planned.

1. Plan7: the week built for you
Plan7 asks for one goal for the next 30 days, the hours you can give it, what can't move (work, classes, the commute), what you protect (gym, family) and your sleep. It subtracts all of that from the 168 hours in a week and tells you if the goal doesn't fit, and by how many hours, before it builds anything. Then it builds seven days of time blocks, and each block can tell you why it sits where it does. During the week, the current block counts down in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen (iOS 17 or later), the apps you chose are paused during focus blocks, and you change a day by typing one message. Tune my week reads the last seven days and rebuilds the next one.
- Limits: iPhone only (iOS 16.4 or later), with no Android, iPad, Mac or web version. No free plan: it's a monthly or annual subscription, and the App Store shows the current price. It reads your calendar but never writes to it, it isn't a task manager and has no task-app integrations, and it plans one person's week, with no team features.
- Pick it if you don't yet know what a realistic week looks like and want it built around one goal. How the week gets built.
2. Week Plan: the 7 Habits way
Week Plan's App Store listing says it's "inspired by the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey and OKR" and that it focuses you on High Impact Tasks over a long list. Its site lists role-based planning, the Eisenhower Matrix, time blocking, a Pomodoro timer and calendar sync, plus team goals and twelve-week plans. There's a free plan with no credit card required. It runs on iPhone from iOS 13.
- Better than Plan7 at: a free plan, team features, and planning several goals across your roles at once.
- Pick it if you like the Covey method and want to decide the week yourself with a structure to follow.
3. NotePlan: a note for every week
NotePlan gives each week its own note: "Set targets on Monday, look back on Friday: what moved, what stalled, what carries over." Monthly and yearly notes sit one level up. You drag a task onto the timeline to make it a time block next to your meetings, and Apple Calendar and Reminders show beside the day's note. Notes are stored as plain Markdown files. It runs on Mac, iPhone, iPad and the web; the site offers a free trial (7 days on the annual plan, 3 on monthly) and no free plan. Get it from the App Store.
- Better than Plan7 at: writing and reviewing your own plan, linking it to notes and projects, and a Mac app.
- Pick it if you think in writing and want the weekly review in the same place as your notes.
4. Sunsama: a weekly ritual, from the desktop
Sunsama's weekly planning is "the start of week ritual to plan your work for the week and set your objectives", paired with a weekly review. It's built for work, and mostly for the computer: the iPhone app says you can use it "once you've planned your first day from the Sunsama desktop app" and that it's "a companion to the desktop app". The pricing page has a 14-day free trial with no card, and Sunsama "doesn't have a free forever plan".
- Better than Plan7 at: planning work tasks pulled from your other tools, and a full desktop app.
- Pick it if you plan work weeks at a computer and want a guided ritual. Plan7 vs Sunsama.
5. Fantastical: the week as a calendar
Fantastical is a calendar with "full screen day, week, month, quarter and year views", natural-language entry ("Lunch with Sarah at 1pm tomorrow") and tasks, including Todoist and Google Tasks, per its App Store listing. The basic app is free; Flexibits Premium adds features across Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, with a 14-day free trial. The site also lists Windows and says Android support is coming in 2027.
- Better than Plan7 at: showing and editing the week you already have, several calendars at once, and scheduling with other people.
- Pick it if your week is mostly meetings and you need to see it clearly, more than you need help deciding it.
6. Structured: when you plan day by day
Structured lays your day out on a visual timeline. Its free features include the drag-and-drop day planner, a Pomodoro focus timer, Live Activities and widgets, and sync across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. Structured Pro adds calendar and Reminders import, recurring tasks and routines, AI day planning and Replan for missed tasks. The listing describes a day planner, and we didn't find a week view mentioned there. It needs iOS 18.
- Better than Plan7 at: a free plan, Apple Watch and Mac apps, and a calm visual day.
- Pick it if you plan one day at a time and want it to look tidy. Plan7 vs Structured.
What a planned week looks like
Here is the worked example behind "deciding what goes in it". Someone works 9:00 to 17:30 on weekdays with 30 minutes of commute each way, sleeps 23:00 to 06:30, trains three times a week and wants 6 hours a week for a certification course.
- Sleep: 7.5 hours × 7 = 52.5 hours
- Work: 8.5 hours × 5 = 42.5 hours
- Commute: 1 hour × 5 = 5 hours
- Meals, chores and getting ready, estimated at 2 hours a day: 14 hours
- Left over: 168 − 52.5 − 42.5 − 5 − 14 = 54 hours, so 6 hours of study and 4.5 hours of gym fit with 43.5 hours to spare
| Day | Fixed | Goal (study) | Gym | Protected |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mon | Work 9:00–17:30 | 20:00–21:00 | 18:00–19:30 | |
| Tue | Work 9:00–17:30 | 19:00–20:00 | Dinner with partner 20:30 | |
| Wed | Work 9:00–17:30 | 18:00–19:30 | Evening off | |
| Thu | Work 9:00–17:30 | 19:00–20:00 | ||
| Fri | Work 9:00–17:30 | 18:00–19:30 | Friends | |
| Sat | 9:00–11:00 | Family lunch | ||
| Sun | 10:00–11:00 | Plan next week 18:00 |
Study adds up to 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 6 hours. In Week Plan, NotePlan, Sunsama or Fantastical you'd build this grid yourself, which is fine if you enjoy it. Plan7 does the count and the grid for you. Our weekly routine template walks through it by hand, and the 168-hour audit shows where your hours go now.

Questions people ask
Is there a weekly planner app that plans the week for me?
Yes. Plan7 builds a week of time blocks on iPhone from one 30-day goal, your fixed hours, what you protect and your sleep, after checking the goal fits in your 168 hours. Week Plan, NotePlan, Sunsama, Fantastical and Structured help you plan, but you decide what goes where.
What's the best free weekly planner app for iPhone?
As of October 2026, Week Plan has a free plan built around a weekly view, Fantastical's basic calendar is free with a week view, and Structured is free but built around the day. NotePlan and Sunsama offer free trials only, and Plan7 has no free plan.
Can I use a weekly planner app with Apple Calendar?
Most of these read your calendar. NotePlan shows Apple Calendar and Reminders, Fantastical works with iCloud calendars, and Structured Pro imports calendars. Plan7 reads four weeks of your iPhone calendar to suggest fixed hours and never writes to it.
