An Alarmy alternative for iPhone that plans what happens after you get up

· 5 min read

If Alarmy gets you out of bed, the alarm part is solved. A good alternative is Plan7 when the problem is what comes next: its alarm missions (iOS 26) open your first planned activity, and the rest of the day runs on time blocks with distracting apps paused through Screen Time. Stay with Alarmy if you want a free alarm, sleep and snore tracking, an iPad or Android version, or your iPhone isn't on iOS 26 yet.

What Alarmy does well

Alarmy has a big following: the App Store listing shows 4.8 stars from 250K ratings and is aimed at heavy sleepers. Its site lists eight missions (math, memory, shake, typing, squat, QR or barcode, steps and photo), over 100 alarm sounds and a Wake Up Check that keeps ringing until you're up. The listing adds Power Off Prevention and Anti-Snooze.

It also covers the night. There are sleep sounds (ASMR, rain, white noise), a morning Sleep Report and Snore Detect, which records snoring so you can play it back. The site says "you can access Alarmy's essential features for free", and the app runs on iPhone and iPad from iOS 17, plus Android.

The free version covers the essentials. Premium adds Prevent Falling Back Asleep, Alarm Sound Power-Up and unlimited snore playback, with a 7-day free trial. On the US App Store listing the in-app purchases ranged from $4.99 to $69.99 (USD) on 2026-10-25, across tiers named Basic, Light, Standard, Plus and Pro. The listing doesn't say which billing period each price covers, so check the paywall in the app.

Why you might look for something else

Alarmy's job ends when the mission is done. You're standing, the phone is in your hand, and nothing decides what the next 30 minutes are for. One check of messages can turn into scrolling until it's time to leave. If that's your pattern, a louder alarm won't fix it.

  • The alarm and the plan are separate. Alarmy wakes you; your calendar or a to-do app is somewhere else.
  • The phone stays open after the mission. We found no app blocking on Alarmy's site or listing.
  • Bedtime is a reminder. Alarmy has bedtime alarms. Pausing apps at night isn't listed either.

How Plan7's alarm works

Plan7 treats the alarm as the first block of a planned day. The alarm stops when you finish a short mission: hold, steps, shake, math, a memory sequence, typing a phrase, or showing an object such as your shoes or toothbrush, each easy, normal or hard. There's no snooze. If you press Stop, it rings again a minute later until the mission is done. Finishing opens your first activity, and each morning adds to a streak with ranks from Recruit to General. A missed morning resets it.

The rest comes from the week Plan7 builds from one 30-day goal, your fixed hours, what you protect and your sleep. Here is a weekday morning for someone whose goal is running three times a week before a 9:00 start:

From alarm to work, with apps paused where it counts
TimeBlockSocial apps
6:30Alarm: steps mission, normalOpen
6:35–6:45Water, running clothesOpen
6:45–7:30Run (Mon, Wed, Fri)Paused
7:30–8:15Shower, breakfastOpen
8:15–8:45CommuteOpen
9:00–12:30Work (fixed)Paused
22:00Lights Out: tomorrow's 6:30 run shownPaused until the alarm

Bedtime at 22:00 gives 8.5 hours before the 6:30 alarm. Lights Out shows tomorrow's first activity before bed and pauses the apps you chose, so the phone isn't the last thing you look at. If a paused app is needed anyway, a seven-second breath opens it for 5 to 60 minutes.

Who should switch, and who should stay

  • Switch to Plan7 if you wake up fine but the first hour disappears into your phone, or if you want the alarm, your day's blocks and app blocking in one place. You need an iPhone on iOS 26 for the missions.
  • Stay with Alarmy if waking up is the whole problem, if you want sleep reports or snore recordings, or if you want something free. Plan7 has no free plan and no sleep tracking.
  • Stay with Alarmy if you're on an older iPhone, an iPad or Android. Its listing supports iOS 17, and Plan7 is iPhone only.

Questions people ask

Is Alarmy free on iPhone?

Its core features are free, per Alarmy's site in October 2026. Premium adds features such as Prevent Falling Back Asleep and unlimited snore playback, with a 7-day trial. In-app purchases on the US App Store ranged from $4.99 to $69.99.

Can I still turn off a Plan7 alarm without doing the mission?

iOS always shows Stop on an alarm. In Plan7, pressing Stop makes it ring again a minute later until the mission is done. The mission is what opens your first activity and counts toward your streak.

Does the photo or object mission keep my pictures?

In Plan7, no. It captures a short live burst, checks the object on your iPhone and deletes the photos afterwards. For Alarmy's Photo mission, check its privacy policy.
